That crazy time of year is getting ever closer and the question that is on every City fans lips is, can we buy Wayne Routledge and Michael Chopra in January?

The two arrivals in November have brought an improvement in performances from the Bluebirds as Cardiff look to mount a serious promotion challenge to start life in our new stadium in the Premiership.

Villa man Cardiff's number one priority

ROUTLEDGE: Villa man Cardiff's number one priority

But with both players set to return to their clubs in early January fears that our challenge might fade for yet another season linger in the back of my mind.

Whittingham out Routedge is needed

Whittingham is out until February and if Routledge does return to Villa our small squad lacks the strength in depth to continue our push for the play-offs this year, but lets not doubt our manager Dave Jones.

Firstly Jones has done a brilliant piece of business in bringing a name such as Wayne Routledge to Ninian Park who despite his Premier League doubters, has the skill and pace that any mid table Premier League side would have and any Championship side would love to have.

In Cardiff’s recent game against Preston Routledge showed that he was too good for the Championship, he left Preston left back Callum Davidson for dead on many occasions needing only a burst of pace or a bit of magic to get into a dangerous position and lets not forget about his goals for Cardiff so far.

He has scored two goals and claimed four assists for Cardiff in five games, already topping City’s assists chart. Therer is no doubt he is a quality player.

Chopra adds touch of class to Cardiff’s attacking line

Meanwhile Chopra has had a slower start to his second spell at Cardiff but none the less has scored three goals and looked dangerous combining with Routledge and Jay Bothroyd in recent weeks to make a fierce attacking line-up and more importantly bringing in the goals as well.

But alot will depend on who is appointed new manager at Sunderland, as the new manager will surely want to take a look at every player in his squad. Which will take some time at Sunderland!

But a Chopra return would certainly cost the club with the Mackams looking to claim back most of the £5 million transfer fee they paid for the Cardiff hero.

There have been rumours that City need to sell local lad Joe Ledley in order to fund moves for Routledge and Chopra in January, but even if we can not afford to buy both players, an end of season loan will still be great business.

Jones has done brilliantly in the transfer market yet again this season and lets just wait and see what miracles he can produce in January, there is no doubt it will be an exciting time for every Cardiff fan.
